Lackey's Opportunity is the Stuff of Legends

You can feel it in the air. The city is alive with hope, confidence, and expectations today. With a rare historic opportunity tonight, the Sox can clinch the World Series at home for the first time since 1918.

I'll keep this short and sweet. Lackey's got the ball tonight and what a perfect scenario it is. Few have been more alienated and knocked around by their hometown media than number 41, who has struggled mightily since signing a big contract years ago. Not only did he pitch well all season, he's been phenomenal this post-season.

Regardless of how tonight goes, Lackey's won back the confidence and respect of the fan base. But if he goes in tonight and deals, holding back the Cardinals offense and delivering a win, he will become a legend. Perhaps more than anyone else, he embodies the comeback the Red Sox have made. Just as he has come back from injuries and struggles, the Sox have come back from last place to one win away from a championship. And what better way for it all to end than for Lackey to come full circle and just shove it down their throats tonight?

A source close to Lackey has told me, "It's so fitting after all the shit he's dealt with the last couple years. He's gonna come out guns blazing."

I think the Sox will win tonight. The trophy's in town, the champagne is in town. Ortiz and company know the stakes and aren't going to let this opportunity pass them by.

(Side note: the city is going to be absolutely crazy tonight. The game is on, President Obama is in town, and Drake is playing at the Garden. The city will be shut down. If they win, it will be something we will never forget.)

I'm fortunate enough to be going to the game tonight. If you're going to, take a second every once and a while to realize where you are and what you're a part of. It's history.

Sox over Cardinals 5-3.
